Small Bowel Capsule Endoscopy

Small Bowel Capsule Endoscopy

It consists of swallowing a Vitamin size capsule. This capsule is a disposable one time use miniature endoscope consisting of dual camera, battery, image capturing and transmitting device. As the capsule travels through your digestive tract, the camera takes thousands of pictures that are transmitted to a recorder you wear on a belt around your waist. The doctor can evaluate your small intestine. This part of the bowel cannot be reached by traditional upper endoscopy or by colonoscopy. The most common reason for doing capsule endoscopy is to search for a cause of bleeding from the small intestine and abdominal pain of obscure origin.
